The SRS50406 Diploma of Sport (Athlete Support Services) is a nationally accredited qualification for people who work in or want to work in the sports industry as a sports massage therapist or strength and conditioning specialist. You can also develop coaching competencies to facilitate the support of athletes in order to maintain or improve the performance and wellbeing of individuals and/or teams.
This qualification is part of the National Training Package and is recognised throughout Australia. This qualification will produce a highly qualified person who possesses a range of sport-specific competencies, to facilitate the support of athletes in order to maintain or improve performance or well being of the individual or team.
You will develop business, leisure and sport, legal, risk management and customer relations core competencies and will be able to transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical skill to a range of situations. You will also develop planning and coordination skills within a sport and recreation context, and will learn how to manage people, environmental performance and projects
The Diploma of Sport (Athlete Support Services) offers the student a number of options to pursue a career in Sport in the areas of massage therapy and strength and conditioning. In addition to learning more in-depth techniques you will gain experience in multiple areas of massage and sport while under supervision.
SRS50406 is a competency based qualification that is structured to produce a qualified Sports Massage Therapist or Strength and Conditioning Specialist capable of managing individuals or a team.

Enrolled students will complete all 9 mandatory Core units, 2 Stream Units from the functional area of athlete support services, 5 elective units as chosen from any competency within the Training Package, and then they opt for the sport specific Specialization units of their choice.

Diploma of Sport (Athlete Support Services) is targeting those persons currently working in the industry, or already participating as Sports coaches/Instructors etc. The pre-requisite units for this course can embedded into the course, so students can enroll directly into Diploma..
The course is delivered by a combination of face to face lectures (where applicable), practical workshops (where applicable), distance learning and online learning.
Fitness and health related training will be delivered in a classroom environment. Qualified coaches will act in mentoring roles to promote best practice and to enhance the student‟s experience and outcomes. Research activities will be self paced and undertaken off campus.
Course length may also be considerably shortened by successful application for Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL), for those who have completed prior studies in related fields and/or have relevant industry experience.
Diploma of Sport Massage is delivered via face to face lectures and distance learning, as a mixed study mode.
Mixed mode entails a combination of theory via distance learning, and practical workshops. Theory Modules will be provided in electronic booklets, to be completed at home, in class where applicable. Additionally, Level 2 First Aid is run over a 1 day workshop
Fees include all electronic training resources, notes, access to online resources, assessment tasks etc. Email support is available to all students, and a response will generally be provided within 24 hours. Please note: you are welcome to contact Global Fitness Institute at any time, should further assistance be required.
Although you can complete much of the course off-campus, we do expect students to take maximum advantage of the opportunity to attend specific lectures and workshops.
As this course is delivered mostly via correspondence, it is self paced, meaning there is no minimum timeframe for course completion, as long as the student successfully completes all required tasks. Understand however, that evidence must be provided to ensure that you have met all required levels of competency for each unit.
Note: where a course has a Practical Assessment requirement, attendance at any practical workshops is a compulsory requirement for the course. Please contact GFI for information on practical assessment.
We allow a maximum of six months for you to complete the course but many students complete the course in a shorter period
Upon completion of this qualification, you will be issued with
- a certificate indication the following;
"this is to certify that „your name‟ has fulfilled all requirements for SRS50406- Diploma of Sport (Athlete Support Services) (specialization)"
- a statement of attainment listing all completed units
Where a student does not complete all components of the course, a certificate of attainment will be issued with all competencies that have been satisfactorily completed and assessed.
