Diploma in Sport (Coaching)(SRS50306)

The SRS50206 Diploma of Sport (Coaching) is a nationally accredited qualification to become a
Coach/Instructor, in your chosen sport (as listed below). This qualification is part of the National Training
Package and is recognised throughout Australia.

SRS50206 is a competency based qualification that is structured to produce a qualified coach capable of
coaching/managing an elite athlete/club.

This qualification facilitates the development of the following knowledge and skills at the international level:

  • Observing athletes performance to determine the level of instruction required;
  • Teaching techniques for athletes to acquire additional skills or improve existing skills;
  • Supervise practice sessions;
  • Planning, conducting, monitoring and adjusting individualized long term, high performance training
  • programs, that incorporates water based training;
  • Implementing sports first aid procedures and applying sports first aid;
  • Supervising the physical development of athletes
  • Aiding in the psychological preparation of athletes to meet the need of high level training and
  • competition;
  • Providing information about drugs in sports issues;
  • Applying the principles of eating for peak performance;
  • Organizing and liaising with sports science support staff;
  • Planning and directing competition strategy;
  • Analyzing the progress of competitions and giving signals/instructions to athletes;
  • Carrying out after competition analysis and evaluation of strategy and performance;
  • Undertaking related administrative tasks such as booking venues, budgeting, organizing tours, and
  • arranging entry into competitions;
  • Implementing a talent identification and development program, and;
  • Recruiting players and other support staff

Enrolled students will complete all 9 mandatory Core units, 7 Stream Units from the functional area of
coaching, 12 elective units as chosen from any competency within the Training Package, and then they opt for
the sport specific Specialization units of their choice.

  • Professional golfer
  • Martial arts
  • Rugby league
  • Swimming

 

Diploma of Sport (Coaching) is targeting those persons currently working as Sports coaches/Instructors in the
sports industry. This qualification is aimed at coaches who wish to deliver high performance training programs,
and coach athletes at an international level for competition.

Prospective students included Secondary school leavers (Yr.12) and persons having completed Certificate IV
in Sport (Coaching). Where required, Certificate III in Sport (Coaching) and Certificate IV in Sport (Coaching)
will be embedded in the training program to allow the person to participate in the Diploma Program.

The course is delivered by a combination of face to face lectures (where applicable), practical workshops
(where applicable), distance learning and online learning.

Coaching and health related training will be delivered in a classroom environment. Qualified coaches will act
in mentoring roles to promote best practice and to enhance the student‟s experience and outcomes.

Research activities will be self paced and undertaken off campus.

Assessment activities will be undertaken via theory tests, completion of assessment workbooks, observation/
questioning checklists under supervision by Global Fitness Institute trainers/assessors.

Fees include all training resources, notes, access to online resources, assessment tasks etc.

Although you can complete much of the course off-campus, where there are scheduled practical requirements
for a course there is a 100% attendance requirement for ALL students.

As this course is delivered mostly via distance learning, it is self paced, meaning there is no minimum
timeframe for course completion, as long as the student successfully completes all required tasks.

Understand however, that evidence must be provided to ensure that you have met all required levels of
competency for each unit.

We allow a maximum of six months for you to complete the course but many students finish in a shorter
period.

Combined Qualifications

Students are able to enroll in multiple courses. Please note: all pre-requisite units to be satisfied.

  • This may be a Certificate III/IV/Diploma Sport (coaching) combination course.

Students are also able to combine units, in order to gain dual qualifications in other specializations for only a
small number of additional units. As the core units for any Diploma course in the Sport and Recreation
Industry training package, are the same,

  • Dual qualifications are offered for Diploma in Fitness/Diploma in Sport (Development), Diploma in

Sport (Athlete Support Services)/Diploma in Massage in combination with Diploma in Sports
Coaching, etc.

Course length may also be considerably shortened by successful application for Recognition of Prior Leaning
(RPL), for those who have completed prior studies in related fields and/or have relevant industry experience.

Upon completion of this qualification, you will be issued with

  • a certificate indication the following;
    • this is to certify that „your name‟ has fulfilled all requirements for SRS50206- Diploma of Sport

(Coaching)(specialization)

  • a statement of attainment listing all completed units

 

First Aid

Students are required to hold a valid Level 2 First Aid certificate.

Global Fitness Institute deliver Accredited First Aid courses, please contact us for dates and locations,
additional First Aid fee of $95.00 is to be paid at time of the course.

Where a student already has a current First Aid certificate (Level 2 minimum), or chooses to obtain First Aid
elsewhere, they are to present that copy for RPL purposes.
